Alexander Carpenter is a musicologist and music critic. He is Professor of Music at the Augustana campus of the University of Alberta, where he teaches courses in music history, music theory, popular music, film music and aesthetics. His research interests include the music of Viennese modernist composer Arnold Schoenberg, the cultural history of Vienna, and popular music. When international travel is permitted, he spends as much time as possible in Austria. When live music is permitted, he performs as a singer and guitars with the rock band Men Who Fell 2 Earth.
