Canadian Centre for Welding and Joining (CCWJ)

Lead by the Weldco/Industry Chair in Welding and Joining, Dr. Patricio Mendez, the centre provides the U of A with a unique opportunity to develop a strong research program that bridges the development of scientific knowledge with the needs and expertise of industrial partners in Canada. One of the primary goals of the centre is to educate and train welding engineers and area experts.

Institute for Oil Sands Innovation (IOSI)

Just imagine... Oil sands operations that use little or no water, consume less energy, generate lower greenhouse gas emissions and yield high-quality products at lower costs.Led by scientific director Dr. Qi Liu, IOSI's aim is to revolutionize the productivity and sustainable of oil sands operations by focusing on delivering breakthrough technology for cleaner, cheaper oil sands development, while also contributing to the development of tomorrow's top-flight researchers and industry leaders. IOSI's groundbreaking research will ensure that extraction and upgrading processes contribute fully to social, economic and environmental excellence - now and for future generations.
