Massage Therapy

The massage therapists at the Glen Sather Clinic are skilled in therapeutic, relaxation and athletic massage, as well as trigger point therapy. Each is a registered massage therapist (RMT) and fully recognized as a service-provider by insurance companies. The massage therapy consultants at the Glen Sather Clinic provide service to the community at large, as well as to U of A faculty, staff and students.

Massage therapists educate patients about proper posture and harmful repetitive strain patterns. Remedial exercises are suggested to assist in the prevention and treatment of certain conditions. Massage therapy is a hands-on approach that affects all the systems of the body, helping to relax muscles. When the muscles are loose and circulation is efficient, there is a reduction in pain and a decreased chance of injury or dysfunction resulting in better health.

Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic massage is an effective mode of treatment for injuries that occur during activities of daily living. These injuries may be the result of:
  • A specific trauma (e.g., motor vehicle accident and athletic injury)
  • Overuse (e.g., occupational injuries, tendonitis and repetitive strain)
  • Conditions developed over time (e.g., headaches, arthritis and fibromyalgia)

In response to these conditions, massage therapists have expanded their role in preventive and rehabilitative expertise, and have adapted their techniques to assist a wide variety of ailments. Massage therapists will combine their assessment skills and knowledge of physiology with their personal experience to provide patients with a proper treatment plan and effective care.
