The research interests of the Li Ka Shing Institute of Virology (LKSIoV) members encompass viral pathogenesis, vaccine development, correlates of immunity, enhancement of vaccine efficacy, oncolysis, and development of novel antivirals. Our Mission

Through leadership in scientific excellence and international collaboration, the Li Ka Shing Institute of Virology will invest in virology and immunology research to discover new methods to prevent, treat, and cure virus-related disease to reduce the burden of viral disease around the world.

Mandate

The LKSIoV unites a consortium of over 45 exemplary and world-renowned researchers to promote scientific advancements aimed at expanding our understanding of viruses and other selected pathogens, their respective disease pathogenesis, and host immune responses to such infections.

Founder + Director

D. Lorne Tyrrell is a Distinguished University Professor and GSK Chair in Virology at the University of Alberta. He is the Founding Director of LKSIoV.

Most of LKSIoV's members are associated with the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology, with member affiliation encompassing 18 other units (institutes, departments, and faculties) at the University of Alberta. Other members are located in other Canadian institutions.
