Medical Genetics 607 - Genetic Counselling Practicum

To provide students currently enrolled in an accredited Genetic Counselling graduate training program with insight and direct experience into the role of a genetic counsellor. The course involves meeting with the instructor(s) and various genetic counsellors regularly, research into key topics in the area and observation and participation in various genetic counselling sessions.

Random cases will be selected for a formal write-up and presentation. Students may also learn to deliver and critique a suitable medical genetics article.  Finally, creative assignments of the student’s choice (ex. Patient pamphlet) may be required. The course is graded based on presentations, written assignment and counselling performance.

Only open to students currently enrolled in an accredited Genetic Counselling training program and with permission of the course instructor.
