Message from the Program Director
Welcome to the University of Alberta Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program! We hope you find our website a useful resource, providing you with detailed information about our program. We take pride in our program and our graduates, who for decades have gone on to successful radiology careers not only in Western Canada but also throughout the country and internationally.
Why choose our program?
We have one of the largest teaching faculties in Canada, a diverse, talented and dedicated group of radiologists, clinicians, physicists and support staff that are key to the success of our program. Our six busy teaching sites (University of Alberta Hospital, Stollery Children’s Hospital, Royal Alexandra Hospital, Grey Nuns Hospital, Sturgeon Community Hospital and Cross Cancer Institute) ensure our residents receive a comprehensive experience in academic and community radiology. A huge referral base including all of Northern Alberta and most of Western Canada provides an extensive breadth of pathology. State-of-the-art imaging equipment includes dual source CT, PET-CT, SPECT-CT and digital mammographic units. A province-wide electronic health record, regional PACS and web-based teaching resources combine to provide a unique integrated learning environment. Recent innovations in residency education include community office rotations for our PGY-4 and 5 residents and a new PGY-2 introduction to ultrasound course in collaboration with the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and Alberta Health Services.
Our mandate is to develop excellent clinical radiologists, with a solid foundation in research, evidence-based medicine and quality assurance. We take this task seriously, and our success is reflected in the quality of our graduates. I encourage you to explore our website to learn more about our program and what it has to offer.
