COVID-19 Spring 2020 update

15 April 2020

Hi Everyone
I hope you are all keeping well! With the sun shining today I am feeling ready for some warmer weather and the chance to explore our neighborhood on sidewalks free of snow and ice!
With these signs of Spring in the air (it is so nice to hear the birds chirping again!), I wanted to provide an update on spring programs at The Steadward Centre. Given the current COVID-19 situation, we have made the difficult decision to cancel all in person Spring 2020 programs. We will make a decision about the summer as we learn more from Alberta Health Services, the Government of Alberta, and the University of Alberta.
In an effort to help our community members stay active during this time at home, I wanted to share the following updates:
- Virtual Programming. We are in the planning stages of preparing virtual program options and hope to share details with you soon! Thank you to everyone who spoke with our staff and shared their thoughts and ideas about what this could look like! Please stay tuned for more information.
- Member Consultations. If you have not had a chance to speak with Lem or Kirsten and would like to, please email infotsc@ualberta.ca or leave a voice mail at (780) 492-3182. Please leave your phone number and a good time of day to call and someone will follow up with you.
- Resources for Families. For those of you with young (or young at heart!) children at home, please click here for a resource that includes a number of great at home activity options. This resource was put together by folks from the Canadian Disability Participation Project (of which I am proud to be part of!) and we hope you will find it useful!
- TSC Social Media. Our staff are working hard to make sure our social media posts are useful and relevant to you. Please take a minute to follow us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter (@TheSteadwardCentre) and let us know how you're doing or if there is other content you would like to see!
We realize this is not an easy time. If you are wondering where to find support for a number of different things, you can check out this comprehensive list put together by the Rick Hansen Foundation:
And here are some Alberta specific supports available through Alberta Health Services: https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/amh/Page16759.aspx
As we continue to spend time on our own, it's becoming even more apparent just how important our relationships with others matter! We miss you and we are looking forward to the day that we can re-open our doors and welcome everyone back to The Steadward Centre. For now, please know that we are thinking about you and we are doing our best to stay in touch!
Take care,
Jen
