Gino Canlas appointed assistant professor at Western University

Gino Canlas, who defended his PhD thesis in Classical Archaeology on December 11, 2020, supervised by Margriet Haagsma, accepted a position as Assistant Professor in Greek Archaeology (tenure track) at Western University, starting July 1st 2024. Funded by a doctoral SSHRC, Dr. Canlas wrote his thesis on: Sacred Space and Community Identities: Sanctuaries in Broader Thessaly from the Archaic to the Hellenistic Periods. He is working on turning his thesis into a book entitled: Sacred Space and Community Identity in Ancient Thessaly, which is under contract with Brill in their series Religions of the Graeco Roman World. Over the past years, Dr. Canlas has been working as a postdoctoral research fellow for the Database of Religious History at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Canlas is also a long-term staff member of the Central Achaia Phthiotis Survey, and he plans to continue fieldwork in Thessaly in the years to come. Θερμά συγχαρητήρια, Gino!
