Professor Steven Penney has announced the release of the third edition of Criminal Procedure in Canada, a book co-authored with James Stribopoulos of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and Vincenzo Rondinelli of the Ontario Court of Justice. The first edition of this book was published in 2011.

This comprehensive text is widely referenced by lawyers and law students throughout Canada and has been cited extensively by the courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada.

The third edition is updated to account for major developments in legislation and case law, including discussions of a number of significant Supreme Court of Canada decisions that have an impact on the criminal process, such as search and seizure, investigative detention, questioning, bail, trial within a reasonable time, Charter remedies, sentencing and more. The new edition also addresses the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on several areas of criminal procedure.

The book, Penney says, is “designed to serve both as a coherent and integrated summary of the prevailing law as well as a scholarly critique of the weaknesses in that law.”
