MacEwan University to install Dr. Anthony (Tony) Fields as its first chancellor

A renowned oncologist and visionary leader in cancer care will serve as MacEwan University’s first chancellor.

The MacEwan University Board of Governors has elected Dr. Anthony (Tony) Fields to be installed as chancellor for a four-year, non-renewable term at a ceremony on July 12. The announcement marks an important milestone in the university’s history and its role as an undergraduate university. One of the new chancellor’s first responsibilities will be to preside over and confer degrees at the university’s online spring convocation ceremonies from July 13 to 15.

“I am incredibly honoured to be the university’s first chancellor and a part of its bright new future,” says Dr. Fields. “It is easy to look at the world and wring our hands about the present or worry about the future, but I think it is important to remember that positive change is something we must choose and work for – that we can will a different kind of future if we work together to achieve it.”

As chancellor, Dr. Fields will be the university’s ceremonial head and work closely with leadership to build connections and relationships that increase the institution’s profile and contribute to realizing its vision.
