Emily Legleitner

The Department of Art & Design is pleased to announce that MFA Printmaking student Emily Legleitner has received the prestigious Frogman's Graduate Student Scholarship from the University of Iowa. Emily's prints will be featured in a solo exhibition, and she will have the fee waived for her to attend one of Frogman’s 2023 Print Workshops.

About Emily | Emily Legleitner is an MFA candidate in printmaking at the University of Alberta. Originating from Flint, Michigan in the United States, Legleitner works within the expanded fields of print media, fiber arts, ceramics, and metals. Her printed imagery is informed by lens-based inquiry, performance, and the body. Legleitner uses portraiture to share auto-biographical narratives and self-reflections. She received a BFA in Studio Art from Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan in 2019. Her work has garnered critical acclaim throughout the United States, with notable solo exhibitions in Brooklyn, New York; Flint and Traverse City, Michigan; and Columbia, Missouri. Her work can be found in the permanent collection of the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (2022) and has been published in the London-based print journal Printmaking Today (2018). Legleitner was an artist in residence at the Icelandic Textile Center (Blönduós, Iceland) in 2019.

Her research at the University of Alberta is focused on surrealistic imagery that reflects on anxiety associated with mortality, choice making, and the human condition
