Vikes for Tykes

Our Vikings are getting into the Christmas spirit! The "Vikes for Tykes" toy drive is a student initiative that allows Augustana athletes, coaches, trainers and fans to give back to the community. Read about it here and see how you can take part.

The U of A Augustana Campus "Vikes for Tykes Toy Drive" is a student initiative spearheaded by the Augustana Vikings athletes. The goal of this drive is to give back to the community while creating a sense of unity amongst the Augustana Campus while continuing the University's terrific traditions of service in the Camrose community.

The goal is for each Augustana athlete, coach, trainer and fan to donate one toy to the drive. For the safety of the kids, all toys must be new, unwrapped and in its original packaging. There is no price limit on toys, however $10 is plenty! (We are not trying to provide kids with the best presents they have ever received, but rather just a reminder that they aren't alone and that their community is thinking of them.)

Our target is to collect 200 toys by the end of November. Toys collected will be donated to two important initiatives:

  • The Kinette Club of Camrose Silent Santa program, which provides families in need in the Camrose area with gift boxes full of toys for Christmas
  • Augustana Student Athletes will visit the Stollery Children's Hospital at the University of Alberta to hand deliver presents to the children.

There will be drop boxes at the admission tables for each Vikings home basketball, volleyball and hockey games between now and the final exam break for any fans that wish to donate toys. Any contribution is greatly appreciated!
