On March 31, the term of the current collective agreement between NASA and the university ends. It is common for negotiations to continue beyond the end date of a collective agreement as the representative bargaining teams work together towards a renewal agreement. The terms of the collective agreement will continue to apply in accordance with the provision of the Labour Relations Code. University activities, including learning, research, teaching and other work continue as usual. U of A and NASA exchange initial proposals
On Feb. 20, the U of A and NASA bargaining teams met and exchanged initial proposals. As part of a commitment to transparency in bargaining, the parties have agreed to make the initial proposals available to the community for review. The university received a notice to bargain from the Non-Academic Staff Association (NASA) on January 12, initiating negotiations on a new collective agreement. The university is committed to a fair, respectful and sustainable collective bargaining process that will help to shape the future of the university and its community.
The University of Alberta is pleased to share that Geoff Tierney will act as lead negotiator for the university. Mr. Tierney brings a depth of experience in academic and non-academic labour negotiations, including serving as the U of A’s lead negotiator in previous rounds of negotiations. The university’s bargaining committee negotiates on behalf of the Board of Governors.
