Assistant Curator, D. Shpeley

email: dshpeley@ualberta.ca

As assistant curator, I was able to participate in a number of collecting trips to neotropical areas in search of specimens, particularly ground beetles in the family Carabidae. The picture above was taken in the Strickland Museum in May, 2012.

I have a Biological Sciences diploma (N.A.I.T., Edmonton, Alberta, 1971) and a B.Sc. major in Biological Sciences (Notre Dame University, Nelson, B.C., 1974). I have been employed in my current position since October of 1974, first with the Department of Entomology, and then with the Department of Biological Sciences after the merger in 1994.

Currently I am coordinating the Strickland Museum of Entomology and Freshwater Invertebrates Collection online databases and field guides to the insects of Alberta. I am concentrating my effort on the section on the Ground Beetles of Alberta.

Most of my publications deal with ground beetle taxonomy and systematics.
