Mike Bowling elected as a Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence

Professor Mike Bowling is recognized for his significant contributions to game-playing theory and practice and to machine learning.

Mike Bowling, Fellow and Canada CIFAR AI Chair at Amii and Professor at the University of Alberta, was named a Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) in 2021.

The Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence's Fellows program was started in 1990 to recognize individuals who have made significant, sustained contributions — usually over at least a ten-year period — to the field of artificial intelligence.

From the Amii website, "[he] is recognized for his contributions and leadership in the field of AI, including his work producing theoretical advancements in the world of imperfect (or hidden) information games and for playing an instrumental role in establishing the field of deep reinforcement learning."

Founded in 1979, the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) (formerly the American Association of Artificial Intelligence) is a nonprofit scientific society devoted to advancing the scientific understanding of the mechanisms underlying thought and intelligent behavior and their embodiment in machines.
