Csaba Szepesvári, Fellow and Canada CIFAR AI Chair at Amii, team-lead for the “Foundations” team at DeepMind and Professor at the University of Alberta, was named a Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) in 2023.

The Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence's Fellows program was started in 1990 to recognize individuals who have made significant, sustained contributions — usually over at least a ten-year period — to the field of artificial intelligence.

He is recognized for his contributions in the field of AI through his work on developing and analyzing algorithms that learn efficiently and effectively in sequential decision making and in advancing the field of reinforcement learning theory.

Founded in 1979, the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) (formerly the American Association of Artificial Intelligence) is a nonprofit scientific society devoted to advancing the scientific understanding of the mechanisms underlying thought and intelligent behavior and their embodiment in machines.
