Here are this week’s updates for the U of A community:

Announcement on Fall Term 2020

Yesterday, President Turpin announced the U of A’s initial plans for welcoming incoming and current students to the new academic year in September. The majority of classes in the Fall 2020 term will be delivered remotely and online. Where possible, we are committed to providing small group and in-person learning. Updates will continue to be posted on this site as they become available.

Financial assistance for students

We’ve compiled a list of available resources, including monetary and equipment loans, plus awards and scholarships that may help students navigate these challenging times. Also, the federal government is now accepting online applications for the Canada Emergency Student Benefit (CESB). The benefit is available to post-secondary students, and recent post-secondary students, who are unable to find work due to COVID-19.

Resuming on-campus research, phase 1

A gradual, phased resumption of on-campus research activities will start at the U of A on May 25. Guidance is now available for researchers on how to ready their campus research spaces and work environments to meet current public health requirements. Once ready, researchers can then apply to resume their research on campus.

Research funding: How to manage potential impacts

COVID-19 has affected research projects in various ways. In the case of research funding, there are some potential impacts principal investigators and project holders should consider. Find out more.

Sign up to clear your locker

Sign up for a time slot to pick up items from your locker Wednesday, May 20. Please register for your locker appointment at this link. This link will close at 11:59PM Tuesday, May 19.
To help ensure safe physical distancing, only 15 appointments will be offered for each time. If you can’t make it to any of the available appointments please email focomms@ualberta.ca. Additional appointments will be made available this summer, and your items will remain in the locker until claimed.

University Health Centre and Pharmacy are open

U of A students, employees and instructors can continue to access health services at the University Health Centre and Pharmacy in the Students’ Union Building.

To support our community while operating in alignment with public health guidelines, those seeking medical care should first submit an online appointment form. A health care provider will follow-up with a phone call during regular business hours and those with medical concerns that can not be managed on the phone, will be scheduled for an in-person visit.

The University Health Centre Pharmacy is open for walk-in traffic and has added curb-side pick-up and a new prescription delivery service to better serve our community during this time.
