Experience Canadian culture and practice your English beyond the classroom.

The English Language School at The University of Alberta has partnered with Canada Homestay Network (CHN) to offer a unique all-inclusive housing option for our students. When you choose homestay with CHN, you become a member of the family you live with, part of the community you live in, and make the most of your time in Canada.

The homestay service is for...

  • Students admitted to the UAlberta English Language School.
  • UAlberta degree program students whose native language is not English.

Host families

Canada Homestay Network hosts – who are carefully screened and now receive special health and safety training – are committed to including you in meaningful family time including meals, conversations, and excursions. That means immersion in Canadian culture and many more opportunities to learn practical English!

Hosts provide:

  • a caring family environment
  • a private furnished room
  • requested meals

Costs

For individual applicants who are 18 years of age or older:
  • Registration Fee: C$250
  • Accommodation with meals: C$1010 per month or C$45 per night
  • Airport Transfer: C$200 (round trip)
  • Administration Fee: C$75

Become a host (Edmonton families):

CHN invites Edmonton families to join our homestay host network. CHN will provide a generous hosting stipend to offset expenses, orientation and resources, and 24/7 support.  

Other housing options

University of Alberta Housing

Residence Services operates several student housing facilities on the University campus. If you wish to apply for on-campus housing, you can choose where you want to live by reviewing the residences on the Prospective Residents section of their website.

When you are ready to apply, you can start here to complete your application and submit your $25 residence application fee by credit card.

You will be offered housing if you have received your Letter of Acceptance to the English Language School. If you need help you can contact Residence Services directly at housing@ualberta.ca.
