CSC-funded research placements are 3 months in duration and typically take place from July until October. Exact internship dates are dependent on the flexibility of the supervising professor.
Placement Process & Important Dates - CSC Summer 2026

University of Alberta professors submit research projects through the Project Proposal Form |

Late June - early August, 2025 (approximately - exact date to be announced soon) |
Students from partner institutions apply to projects Deadline is 1:59 PM (13:59) Mountain Standard Time |
| September - October 2025 | Preliminary eligibility screening of applicants by U of A International and ranking of eligible applicants by project supervisors |

From November 2025 |
Selected applicants then complete the China Scholarship Council online application |
| From December 2025 |
Internship offers sent to selected applicants (Offers expire if no confirmation is received within 1 week) |
| From January - February 2026 | UAI will prepare required immigration documents and provide them to selected candidates. CSC to provide award letters confirming sponsorship. |
| June 30 - September 30, 2026 |
Standard 3-month internship schedule for CSC-funded internships; alternate start dates may be accommodated on a case-by-case basis with approval from the host professor, as long as duration remains 3 months. Any placement MUST begin before the end of the 2026 calendar year at the absolute latest. |
