Hands-on a Holstein Volunteer Program
Undergraduate students Grad students + post-docs
For Agriculture students (all levels and all disciplines) and taking place at the Dairy Research and Technology Centre on South Campus, participants will gain a competitive edge as it will introduce them to industry partners, complex issues facing the future of agriculture in real time and technical experience — valuable to heighten portfolios when applying to veterinary schools. The volunteers will be incorporated into daily operations and special projects centred around animal welfare and management.

Community Service-Learning (CSL)

Offers students the opportunity to work and make a difference with a local community group, while reflecting and putting their experiences in context within a university course. Most courses are for undergraduates but there are a few graduate courses on the CSL list.
Green and Gold Student Leadership and Professional Development Grant
Undergraduate students Grad students + post-docs
To help current full-time students (undergraduate and graduate) become leaders in their profession following graduation. The grant funds up to 80 per cent of the total cost of an activity (e.g., conferences, seminars, skill-building workshops, experiential learning activities, etc.) to a maximum of $1,500.
e3 Program (Education Abroad Program)

Study U of A courses abroad in an experiential learning format with a small group of students. Note: many are open to graduate students but not all.
Internships Abroad Program

For undergraduate and graduate students with both paid and unpaid opportunities. Provides hands-on learning with experts in various fields, global networking opportunities and a chance to immerse yourself in diverse cultures — all while advancing your career.
Professional Development and Experiential Learning Fund (PDEL)
Undergraduate students Grad students + post-docs
For current full-time and part-time undergraduate and graduate students. Covers 100 per cent of the total activity cost (in-person or remotely) ranging between $7 and $325. Eligible activities include, but are not restricted to, leadership conferences and seminars, skill-building workshops and courses, meetings and events hosted by professional associations and experiential learning activities.

Indigenous Student Museum Internship (ISMI) at the Royal Alberta Museum

16-week paid internship for First Nations, Métis and Inuit post-secondary students.
Pathy Foundation Fellowship
Undergraduate students Grad students + post-docs
Students at a bachelor's or master’s level are eligible to apply to the Fellowship when they are in their final year of studies. They begin the Fellowship in June, immediately following the completion of their degree. This opportunity is a 12-month experiential-learning program in youth leadership and community engagement that provides state-of-the-art training, extensive support, and $50,000 in funding to launch a community-strengthening initiative in any field, sector and community across the world.

Career Integrated Learning (CIL) Program
Undergraduate students Grad students + post-docs
Supports students by enhancing their awareness of employability skills developed through academic coursework. The program is offered in English and French.
Roger S. Smith Award
Undergraduate students
$5,000 for ALES undergraduate students in satisfactory academic standing with a Faculty GPA of 3.0 or higher entering their second, third or fourth year of study. This award is intended to cultivate and support research partnerships between undergraduate students and faculty members in Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) fundable disciplines (such as the departments of REES and HECOL). The funding will provide for 15 weeks of research-based activity from May to August. Students must not have completed degree requirements prior to commencement of the research term. Deadline is typically in mid-April and requires students to get a faculty member supervisor and to fill out a Google form.
Tri-Agency Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA) Program

Administered by Canada’s three Tri-Agency funding agencies: the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).
