ALES 391: Mexico Tour
Explore agriculture, food, environment, culture and social life in Mexico and earn 3* credits this February.
Explore and earn credits on the ALES 391: Mexico Tour from Feb 14-22, 2026 with resource economist Sven Anders! You will travel from Puerto Vallarta to Guadalajara and sites throughout the state of Jalisco to experience small and commercial farms, markets and grocers, and food processing operations with trade linkages to Canada and Alberta.
Cost: $1,600 per individual. This is "all inclusive" of airfare, all local transport, accommodation, meals, beverage at meals
ALES undergraduate students receive first priority in this course. U of A MSc students will be considered pending capacity.

A unique opportunity for students interested in agriculture, food, economics, business or science
The tour will include visits to farm and food business ventures, including small-scale and commercial tropical fruit and vegetable producers, packing/processing businesses, and sites that may include fish or seafood aquaculture, avocados, coconuts and other tree crops. We plan to visit a center dedicated to the preservation of genetic biodiversity of agriculturally important crop and livestock species and visit traditional wholesale markets and grocery retail formats common to Mexico.
