Departments

The Faculty of Arts houses fifteen departments, representing over sixty different areas of focus for students. We host numerous interdisciplinary programs, as well as sixteen different centres and institutes. With approximately 7,000 students in the Faculty, we account for more than one fifth of the university’s total undergraduate program registrations.

Established in 1908 as one of the University of Alberta’s founding faculties, the Faculty of Arts now boasts one of the most diverse faculties in Canada. Our global alumni community has over 59,000 members and counting, and several of our departments are ranked indisputably among the finest in the country. Experiential learning opportunities with the Faculty of Arts include Arts Work Experience, Study Abroad and Community Service-Learning programs.
