Your Program and Registration

About Your Program Sheet

If you have the Academic Requirements Report in Bear Tracks, and not a Program Sheet, please see the "About Your Academic Requirements Report" section below.

Your Program Sheet outlines the requirements of your degree by listing each course/requirement you must complete in order to graduate. It is created especially for you, at the time of admission, by a Student Advisor in Education Student Services (ESS).

Your Program Sheet includes personal information like your name and ID as well as academic information like program route (elementary or secondary), type of program (Four-Year, After Degree, Combined), and transfer credit (if applicable). As a result, it is extremely important that you follow the Program Sheet given to you by ESS and use it as a guide when selecting courses and planning your program.

You can request an updated Program Sheet at any time by submitting a Registration Check. A Student Advisor will review and update your Program Sheet and send it to your @ualberta email.

About Your Academic Advisement Report

If you have a Program Sheet and do not have the Academic Advisement Report in Bear Tracks, please see the "About Your Program Sheet" section above and the "Viewing my Program Sheet" section below.

Academic Advisement is an online degree planner tool within Bear Tracks that is used to track the requirements a student must satisfy in order to graduate from their program. As a student progresses towards graduation, the application will analyze the student’s completed and in-progress courses to determine what requirements remain outstanding.

As of Fall 2025, students enrolled in the 4-year Bachelor of Education (Elementary) and 4-year Bachelor of Education (Secondary) programs no longer receive program sheets and instead rely exclusively on the Academic Advisement Report for program planning and progress tracking.

Beginning in Fall 2026, this change will also apply to students in the BEd Elementary After Degree program, who will transition to using the Academic Advisement Report.

Students admitted to these programs prior to these transition dates will have been issued a program sheet and may continue to use it for the duration of their studies. In addition, students in the 4-year Bachelor of Education (Elementary) and 4-year Bachelor of Education (Secondary) programs who were admitted in Fall 2023 or later will also have access to their Academic Advisement Report.

Please note BEd Secondary After-Degree students are not programmed for the Academic Advisement Report and will continue to receive program sheets to track their degree progression.

For more information about the Academic Advisement Report, including 'how-to' videos, please visit the Guide to Academic Advisement Report.

If your report is not displaying properly, please submit an Academic Requirements Check.

Viewing my Program Sheet

If you have the Academic Requirements Report in Bear Tracks, and not a Program Sheet, then please see the "About Your Academic Requirements Report" section above.

The Faculty of Education is transitioning program sheets from Adobe Acrobat PDF format to Google Docs. Please refer to the appropriate section below based on the format of your program sheet.

Adobe Acrobat PDF

Your Program Sheet is a PDF designed for use with Adobe Acrobat. For the best experience, view it on a desktop or laptop using the latest version of Adobe Reader, as other viewers may not support its interactive features.

If you do not have Adobe Reader, download the latest version here:
https://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/

If you experience issues opening your Program Sheet, ensure your Adobe Reader is up to date. Once installed or updated, download and save the Program Sheet to your computer, then open it using Adobe Acrobat Reader (right-click the file, select “Open with,” and choose Adobe Acrobat Reader).

Please note:

  • Interactive features (such as drop-down menus and links) may not work in other PDF viewers.
  • Some devices may not allow you to save edits, but the sheet can still be used for planning.
  • On Mac computers, the default viewer (Preview) may not display the Program Sheet correctly.

You can request an updated Program Sheet at any time by submitting a Registration Check. A Student Advisor will review and update your Program Sheet and send it to your @ualberta email.

Google Docs

Your Program Sheet is provided as a Google Doc. To begin using it, you will be prompted to create your own copy, which you can edit and use to track your progress throughout your degree.

For the best experience, access your Program Sheet using a desktop or laptop and ensure you are logged into your ualberta Google account. Once you have created your copy, it will be saved to your Google Drive, where you can update it as needed.

Please note:

  • You must create your own copy to edit the document; the original version is view-only.
  • Accessing the document on a mobile device may limit some functionality.

You can request an updated Program Sheet at any time by submitting a Registration Check. A Student Advisor will review and update your Program Sheet and send it to your @ualberta email.

Transfer Credit

If you transferred to the Faculty of Education from another faculty at the University of Alberta or another post-secondary institution, you may have received transfer credit for some or all of the courses you completed. Your Transfer Credit Report  will be posted in Bear Tracks and can be viewed under the Academic Records tile. This credit will also appear in your Program Sheet or Academic Advisement Report as it applies toward your degree requirements.

Please note that After-Degree students do not receive an official Transfer Credit Report. Instead, waived degree requirements will be reflected directly in your Program Sheet or Academic Advisement Report.

To receive transfer credit, courses must:

  1. Fulfill a requirement in your program
  2. Transfer to the University of Alberta (for external courses). NOTE: For most courses, the minimum grade accepted for transfer credit when it comes to external courses is a C- or 60%.

If you did not receive transfer credit for a course and you believe that it meets the requirements listed above, please submit a request for a Credit Check. A Student Advisor will follow up with you upon reviewing your request.
