Important information about new group benefits providers

The university is moving to new providers for your group benefits in 2027. Your benefit plans are not changing, they will be administered and delivered by new partners.

We encourage you to visit the Benefits Provider Transition webpage for more information, including FAQs and benefit categories and timelines. The provider transition will begin this fall and conclude in April 2027.

Postdoctoral Scholar Appointments

  • Full-time postdoctoral scholar employees.
  • Full-time postdoctoral scholar awardees and visitors who are not employees are eligible to participate in university health and dental plans.

Cost of Benefits

As of April 1, 2026, the cost of the postdoctoral scholar benefits are:

  • Health - $67 per month (single or family coverage)
  • Dental - $67 per month (single or family coverage)
  • Employee and Family Assistance Program - $6.60 per month
  • Workers Compensation Board (WCB) - $0.46 per $100 of your stipend (based on an annual stipend)

Visiting Canada

If you are not eligible for Alberta Health Care, you must enroll in the University of Alberta Health Insurance Plan (UAHIP). UAHIP provides coverage for international students, employees and their families who reside in Canada but are not eligible for provincial health coverage.
