Prospective U of A Driver? Book your evaluation ASAP
6 February 2026
Book your evaluation soon to avoid the spring rush
Planning field research activities out of town this spring or summer? Remember that where U of A vehicles (owned, rented or leased) are involved, prospective drivers must first complete training and an in-car evaluation.
Historically, there is a significant uptick in evaluation requests each spring, which can result in scheduling challenges and delays. Completing training and evaluations earlier will help avoid bottlenecks, ensure timely authorization, and allow drivers to be fully cleared and ready when needed. If your driver evaluation is not urgent, please wait until the fall to book it.
To become an authorized driver, first complete the Defensive Driving online course (<3 hrs). Once you complete the course you will be required to complete an application/abstract consent form and contact the Fleet Safety Officer to book an in-car evaluation. Ensure that you budget at least one month to complete these activities.
If you have any questions or need assistance with scheduling, please contact fleet.safety@ualberta.ca.
