Malene Beck

Malene Beck, RN, MNSc, PhD, is a Professor in Paediatric Nursing based in Denmark. She is Professor at the Faculty of Health, University of Southern Denmark and Head of Research, Children and Adolescent Unit, Zealand University Hospital, Denmark.

Her work has for many years centered on how spaces and places in healthcare shape possibilities for presence, stillness, shared community, and meaningful care. Drawing on clinical practice, she studies what care looks like in everyday situations and what gives room to attention, presence, and relationships, with a main focus on seriously ill children and their families.

Her research is driven by an interest in the human aspects of encounters in healthcare: what it means to be together, how time and space are shared, and how care takes form in practice. Her work combines empirical inquiry with philosophy and nursing theory and is relevant to ethical questions in clinical practice across disciplines and contexts.
