What you will learn
Join us for an in-depth course on mastering the latest regulations from Health Canada regarding radiation safety that are impacting dental practices across the nation. This hot topic is generating significant buzz in dental practices, and this course will help you navigate these changes with confidence.
Course structure
- Morning session: Live lectures covering the main changes in the updated code and how to apply them in your office, followed by a Q&A session.

- Afternoon session: Hands-on training at the Oral Health Clinic in the Kaye Edmonton Clinic, where small groups of participants will practice using rectangular collimation for taking bitewings and periapical images, and patient positioning for panoramic and CBCT imaging. Tips and tricks for reducing retakes will be demonstrated, with opportunities for questions and discussions within a small group setting.

Dr. Anthea Senior
Associate professor in radiology
Dr. Senior, obtained her bachelor of dentistry degree from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne (UK) in 1992. For the following 9 years, she practiced as a general dentist, providing care to mainly children and special care adult populations in the North East of England.
In 2003 she completed a diploma in dental surgery from the University of Bristol (UK) in pediatric dentistry, special care dentistry and oral health and disease. Dr. Senior joined the University of Alberta in 2003. She is currently an associate professor in radiology at the School of Dentistry. She teaches radiology techniques and interpretation in classroom, clinical and laboratory settings and presents on educational research and oral radiology locally and nationally.

Dr. Fabiana Almeida
Assistant professor, discipline lead of oral and maxillofacial radiology
Dr. Almeida, DDS, OMR, MSc, PhD, is an assistant professor at the Mike Petryk School of Dentistry, University of Alberta. She has dental and oral maxillofacial radiology training. She also completed a master of science (2010) and PhD (2016) in health sciences - oral diagnosis.
Currently, Almeida teaches oral radiology to DDS and DH students and advanced imaging to graduate students the clinical programs. She serves as the discipline lead of oral and maxillofacial radiology and the director of the UG Research Initiative Program. Her research interests include advanced imaging modalities (ultrasound, MRI and CBCT) applied to diagnosis in dentistry, particularly, TMJ and artificial intelligence applied to imaging.

Dr. Camila Pacheco Pereira
Associate Professor, and Oral and maxillofacial radiologist specialist
Dr. Pereira, DDS, MBA, MSc, MS, PHD, FRCDC, is one of the few board-certified oral and maxillofacial radiologists in Alberta. She leads the Advanced Imaging Centre at the University of Alberta.
With over 90 peer-reviewed publications, her research focuses on 2D and 3D imaging applications, knowledge translation in dental imaging, and metrics related to patient satisfaction with oral health care. Embracing innovation and collaboration, she explores the use of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and alternative imaging tools to advance digital dentistry. Pacheco-Pereira is committed to integrating augmented intelligence into dental imaging, promoting knowledge translation in oral radiology, and advancing education by emphasizing imaging justification and the appropriate use of imaging modalities in dentistry.

Ashley Fossen
Registered Dental Assistant
Ashley has been part of the UofA Dentistry team for several years and comes to us with nearly 15 years of experience in the healthcare industry. She is committed to showcasing her expertise in dental radiology and assisting with a background as a Registered Dental Assistant and proficiency in Medical Laboratory and X-ray Technology.
Ashley contributes substantial knowledge and experience to her role and currently holds the position of Advanced Imaging Coordinator with the School of Dentistry Oral Health Clinic, as well as a clinical instructor for the continuing education Auxiliary Cone Beam CT course. The diversity of her experience in the radiology field allows her to remain dedicated to equipping dental professionals with the skills and knowledge needed to meet the evolving demands of modern dentistry and radiographic imaging.
