Summer Research Institute

The Applied AI in Oral Health Summer Institute, sponsored by the Network for Canadian Oral Health Research, was held at the School of Dentistry from July 23-26, 2024. This event brought together 21 participants from the University of Alberta and various institutions across Canada, including faculty members, students, and clinicians with diverse expertise in AI and oral health.

The program featured a blend of theoretical and practical sessions. Morning presentations focused on advanced image and text processing methods and their innovative applications in dentistry. These sessions provided participants with the latest insights and research developments in AI-driven oral health technologies. The afternoons were dedicated to hands-on lab work, where attendees had the opportunity to apply these methods to real-world dental data, deepening their understanding and skills.

In addition to the presentations and lab work, the event also included group discussions on the topics covered, allowing participants to engage in meaningful dialogue, exchange ideas, and explore potential collaborations. The event successfully promoted collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and the advancement of AI applications in dentistry.
