U of A researcher's paper becomes the second ever featured in prestigious journal

The review was commissioned by the editors of Nature Reviews Immunology, one of the world's most influential and selective journals in immunology. Unlike traditional journals that accept unsolicited submissions, articles in this journal are published exclusively by invitation, reflecting international recognition of the authors' expertise and leadership in a specific field.
The achievement highlights Dr. Elahi’s pioneering research on the immunological functions of erythroid cells while underscoring the global impact of the research being conducted at the Mike Petryk School of Dentistry and the University of Alberta.
Dr. Elahi's laboratory was among the first to demonstrate that erythroid cells actively regulate immune responses rather than simply serving as immature red blood cell precursors. These findings challenged long-standing assumptions in immunology and opened an entirely new area of investigation into the role of erythroid cells in immune regulation.
