Giving

For more than a century, the Mike Petryk School of Dentistry has been improving the health of Albertans and beyond through outstanding oral and maxillofacial health care, education, research and scholarship, and service to our communities.

That tradition continues, but we need your help now more than ever to meet the evolving needs of our communities.

Current Priorities in Oral Health Care

Behind every great oral health professional is a journey that began with education. Empower the next generation of professionals by giving online. Our flexible giving tool allows you to contribute via single payments, scheduled installments, or recurring gifts.

Dentistry Student Bursary Endowment Fund

Many of our students face significant financial hurdles as they work toward becoming the oral health professionals Albertans rely on. By contributing to this endowment, you provide the essential bursaries that allow our dentistry, dental hygiene and dental assisting students to focus on their training today so they can serve our communities tomorrow.

Dental Hygiene Chapter Bursary

Established through the collective generosity of the Dental Hygiene Alumni Association and friends, this bursary provides essential support to dental hygiene students facing financial hurdles. Your contribution directly empowers students as they work toward joining our profession.

Dentistry Chair's Excellence Fund

This fund provides the school with the flexible resources needed to respond to the school’s most urgent priorities. From launching research projects to upgrading clinical technology, your gift helps keep our oral health-care programs at the forefront of the profession.

Dental Hygiene Excellence Fund

This fund allows for immediate investment in academic excellence. Your support fuels faculty initiatives, enhances student learning environments, and provides the agility to seize new opportunities as they arise.

Pediatric Dentistry Endowment Fund

Right now, thousands of children in our community are struggling with untreated dental infections and chronic pain. This isn’t just about oral health; it’s about a child’s ability to focus in class, maintain their overall physical health, and reach their full potential.

For over 20 years, the school has bridged this gap by integrating compassionate community care into our student training. Every year, we provide free, life-changing dental care to nearly 1,000 children across three vital streams:

  • School visit program, with inner-city schools identified by Alberta Health Services
  • Métis Citizens in Alberta / Access for All
  • SHINE Dentistry

Your gift ensures children in our community can get the oral health care they need to focus in school, stay healthy and reach their potential.

The Petryk Family

Susan, Mike, Pat and Bob Petryk donated $10-million to the U of A to honour Mike's 40-year legacy as a successful, long-serving and patient-focused dental professional. “If there's any way that we can help students to have a better life and be happy, that’s what we want, because we’ve just had a fabulous life,” says Pat.
