2026 Applied Social Research Methods Institute
May 25 - 29th, 2026
The Transforming Research for Social Impact (TRSI) Hub, in collaboration with the Community-University Partnership (CUP) and the International Institute for Qualitative Methodology (IIQM), is pleased to announce that the 2026 Applied Social Research Methods (ASRMI) Institute will be held May 25-29, 2026.
This in-person one-week interdisciplinary and mixed methods research institute brings together learners from multiple backgrounds in an immersive experiential learning environment.
Through ten modules that emphasize applied, multi-method, and community-driven research, the ASRMI Institute helps participants learn about the four core stages of social research -- research design, data collection, data analysis, and knowledge mobilization.
Participants will build methodological expertise, strengthen partnerships across disciplines and sectors, and apply integrative research approaches that prioritize equity, inclusivity, and societal impact.
What makes this institute different from other methods institutes?
Emphasis on mixed and multi method research
Modules are specifically designed around the stages of research to facilitate the incorporation of different ways of knowing and multiple methods.
Partnered projects integrated into training
The Institute integrates applied and community-engaged research projects across the modules with examples, exercises, and assignments linked to on-going research provided by community partners.
Collaborative co-learning approach
The ASRM Institute flips the traditional colonial university structure defined by experts and learners to create a space where all groups learn from one another.
Focus on applied social research
Applied social research facilitates interconnectedness among evidence, action, and social change. It is also highly compatible with community-engaged research, emphasizing real-life problems and collaboration with community.
