U of A swim coach to compete in national talent showcase

Bill Humby, head coach of the University of Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas swimming program, along with his son Nico and daughter Paula, will compete on CBC Radio-Canada's television program "Un air de Famille" beginning this Thursday, December 5.

Bill Humby, head coach of the University of Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas swimming program, along with his son Nico and daughter Paula, will compete on CBC Radio-Canada's television program "Un air de Famille" beginning this Thursday, December 5.

The Humby family, who perform music together as "The Real Humdingers", are competing on the CBC television show, which is a talent showcase for French Canadian families, and their first episode airs this coming Thursday at 8:00 pm MST on TV, and at 6:00 p.m. MST via the show's website. Like other competitive talent-showcase television shows, the Humby family will perform for the judges, but then need the support of Canada to advance to the next round of the competition. Fans can vote for the Humby family after Thursday night's show by going to the show's website (http://airdefamille.radio-canada.ca), clicking the white "VOTEZ" box, and then selecting the Humby family. Fans can also register their vote over the phone by calling 1-900-870-6633. The voting will start 7:00 p.m. MST on December 5th, and will finish Friday the 6th at 7:00 a.m. MST.

Humby is in his eighth season as head coach of the Golden Bears and Pandas swimming program, and in that time has guided the Golden Bears to seven straight podium finishes at the Canada West championship, as well as a fourth place finish at the 2011-12 CIS national championship, and has guided the Pandas' program to five Canada West top three finishes. Originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Humby is also a two-time Canada West coach of the year winner (2010 and 2012). Paula Laroche Humby is a graduate of the Victoria School for the Performing Arts, and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Alberta, while Nico Laroche Humby is also a graduate of the Victoria School for the Performing Arts, and is currently in his third-year of photography at the Alberta College of Art and Design.
