New Director Announced by the Alberta Centre for Active Living

EDMONTON -The Alberta Centre for Active Living (the Centre) and the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation at the University of Alberta are pleased to announce the appointment of a new Director of the Centre, Ms. Nora Johnston, commencing March 24th, 2014.

EDMONTON -The Alberta Centre for Active Living (the Centre) and the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation at the University of Alberta are pleased to announce the appointment of a new Director of the Centre, Ms. Nora Johnston, commencing March 24th, 2014.

Ms. Johnston brings a wealth of leadership and management experience to the Centre, as well as a strong academic and professional background in physical activity, health promotion, wellness, chronic disease prevention, and population and public health. She has held numerous senior leadership positions at Alberta Health, where she was most recently the Director in the Wellness Branch. Nora achieved a Master of Arts in Physical Education and Sports Studies from the University of Alberta, and a Bachelor of Physical Education from McMaster University.

"This hiring strengthens the Centre and our Faculty's management team," said Dr. Kerry Mummery, Dean of the University of Alberta's Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation, and Chair of the Centre's Executive Management Group. "We are excited about the opportunity to work with Nora. Her skills and qualifications will help carry the work of the Centre forward, towards new and renewed partnerships, new initiatives, and continued emphasis on the promotion of physical activity, physical activity research and knowledge mobilization."

Ms. Johnston's arrival at the Centre comes at an opportune time, as the Centre is celebrating its 25thanniversary throughout 2014. "I'm excited and grateful to have the opportunity to do my part in guiding the Centre into its next quarter century," said Ms. Johnston. "I hope to continue the Centre's tradition of connecting and working with many practitioners, researchers, organizations, communities, networks and partners, towards improving the health and quality of life of all Albertans through physical activity."

The Alberta Centre for Active Living is a key advocate of physical activity and physical activity expertise, and a primary source of research and education on physical activity for practitioners, organizations and decision-makers.
