The Steadward Centre Bears Para-Swim Team

The Steadward Centre, in partnership with Golden Bears and Pandas Swimming and the support of the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation, is offering a 10-week program to engage individuals aged 12 and up, experiencing physical and/or sensory impairment in the sport of swimming.

The Steadward Centre, in partnership with Golden Bears and Pandas Swimming and the support of the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation, is offering a 10-week program to engage individuals aged 12 and up, experiencing physical and/or sensory impairment in the sport of swimming.

With the support of qualified coaches and adapted physical activity consultants, this program focuses on the development of competitive swimming skills for sport minded individuals ages 12 and up.

Para Swim program is geared to developing competitive swim skills, so participants must have some experience in a structured swim environment such as lessons.

Participants must:

  • Be 12 years of age or older
  • Be able to follow a structured lesson plan
  • Be able to focus on skill development (4 competitive strokes, starts, turns etc.)
  • Be able to swim 25m without stopping (potentially with assistive devices/support)
  • Bring appropriate swimwear and functional goggles
  • Follow the pool's safety requirements

*An assessment will be conducted on the first day of the program; payment will be collected the second week of the program.
