New Fitness Centre Set to Open December 1

The Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation is pleased to announce the new Fitness Centre (located in the Physical Activity and Wellness Centre) will open December 1. In order to prepare for the opening, there will be a reduction in usage of the old Fitness Centre as staff begin to move pieces of equipment out and installing them in the new location on November 20. New pieces of equipment will continue to arrive throughout the months of December and January to fully outfit the new Fitness Centre in PAW.

New Fitness Centre

The Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation is pleased to announce the new Fitness Centre (located in the Physical Activity and Wellness Centre) will open December 1.

In order to prepare for the opening, there will be a reduction in usage of the old Fitness Centre as staff begin to move pieces of equipment out and installing them in the new location on November 20. New pieces of equipment will continue to arrive throughout the months of December and January to fully outfit the new Fitness Centre in PAW.

The old Fitness Centre will be completely shutdown starting at noon on Friday, November 28. There will be no access to either Fitness Centre from noon, Friday November 28 through to Sunday, November 30.

To find available fitness and activity spaces for staff and students during this transition time, please visit Recreation Services Drop-In Schedule here. The Pavilion and Clare Drake Arena Tracks are also open for use when special events are not taking place.

The new Climbing Centre in PAW will open for operation January 5, 2015. The existing Climbing Wall located in the Pavilion (Butterdome), will remain open and operational until the new location is completed. December hours for the Climbing Centre are posted on the webpage or by visiting the Facebook page.

Facility and program access/usage of the new Fitness Centre and Climbing Centre has been made possible by the new PAW Fee paid by undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Alberta.

  • Large stretching area
  • 3 full scale Synergies (multi-use strength stations)
  • Vastly improved air handling system
