CPRA Award

The Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation was recognized at the 2016 Alberta Recreation and Parks Association Conference with the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association's Partnership Award.

The Canadian Parks and Recreation Association (CPRA) Partnership Award recognizes national/provincial sector partners whose collaboration, creativity, and innovation, enriches individual health and community well-being and enhances the parks and recreation community in Canada.

This year's recipient of the CPRA Partnership Award is the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation at the University of Alberta. The Faculty has been a strong leader in recreation across Canada since founding the original recreation degree in 1962, which has flourished into an ongoing partnership of faculty, academics, and practitioners. Upholding their model of innovation, the Faculty joined in the unique tripartite arrangement, a partnership between the university, ARPA and the Government of Alberta. This partnership provided new opportunities for those in Canada and around the world, hosting several summits, conferences, and both the Canadian and World Congresses on Leisure Research.

The Faculty's dedicated staff members continually produce world-class academic research that enriches the lives of new eager practitioners in the field of recreation. Alumni of this Faculty have gone on to thrive as distinguished leaders in municipalities across Canada. ARPA would like to thank this Faculty for the roots they have laid down in Canadian recreation and parks for over 50 years. We congratulate the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation at the University of Alberta for their continual dedication to knowledge, experience, and research, and are proud to present them with this year's CPRA Partnership Award.
