Meet KSR’s Faculty General Manager

Can you describe your role as faculty general manager and how it supports the work of KSR?

My role is to lead the operational and administrative functions of the faculty. I see strong leadership and management in this area as the foundation that supports KSR’s teaching and research mission. My goal is to ensure our people, processes and resources are seamlessly aligned so that faculty, staff and students can focus on what they do best.

What drew you to KSR and to this role?

I was drawn back to KSR because this is where my professional journey began. Having spent my formative years here as a student and staff member, I have a deep-rooted passion for this community. I’ve always loved leading and working with diverse teams, and the FGM role offers the perfect opportunity to collaborate with the faculty, staff and partners who make KSR such a vibrant and impactful place.

Can you tell us a bit about your background and the path that led you here?

My journey has come full circle. Originally from Fort St. John, B.C., I moved to Grande Prairie, Alta., for the first two years of my degree before transferring to the University of Alberta. I am a proud double-alumnus of this faculty, having completed my bachelor of physical education and recreation in 2001 and my master of arts in 2008. During my master’s, I worked as the supervisor of the Fitness and Lifestyle Centre and was involved with the Alberta CSEP Health & Fitness Program.

In 2007, I transitioned to the health-care sector with Alberta Health Services, working as an exercise specialist on a multidisciplinary chronic disease management team. I moved into leadership in 2012, managing teams across primary care and allied health. While I learned an immense amount in health care, I realized in 2018 that the University of Alberta was where I wanted to be long-term. I returned to the U of A as the director of administration for postgraduate medical education in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and served as their deputy FGM from 2021 to 2025.

What are you most looking forward to as you prepare to join the KSR community?

I am incredibly excited to rejoin this community — it truly feels like a homecoming. Beyond the nostalgia, I am looking forward to the unique energy of KSR. I am eager to apply the leadership lessons I’ve learned in health care and other areas of the U of A to help support the future growth and success of the faculty.

Outside of work, what do you enjoy spending your time on?

I love being outdoors and spending time with my husband, Adam, and our two daughters, Layne (17) and Amity (15). Most of my spare time is currently spent as a professional spectator, meet volunteer and logistics coordinator for Layne and Amity’s various sporting endeavors.

Is there anything you’d like the KSR community to know as you get ready to start in the role?

I plan to be "out and about" quite a bit over the first few months. It is important to me to meet everyone face-to-face and learn firsthand about the incredible work being done across the faculty. If you see me in the halls, please do say hello — I’m looking forward to connecting with all of you.
