How to Apply

Minimum MMI entrance requirements:

  • Applicants must have a supervisor(s) willing to accept them into their laboratory for their application to be reviewed by the admissions committee.
  • Undergraduate degree in a related discipline in the last two years with a GPA 3.0.
  • Research experience in a laboratory setting.
  • For applicants not exempted from the English Language Test (see exemptions list):
    • A minimum TOEFL score of at least 600 (95 internet-based) or the equivalent in other English language tests (7 overall and 6.5 per band for IELTS).
    • Other English language tests acceptable to the University of Alberta are listed here.

Notes:
  • Requirements for our program are higher than the minimum set by the University.
  • Applications are processed by an admissions committee throughout the year.
  • Applicants can arrange to rotate with two potential supervisors, but both supervisors must be willing to accept the applicant into their laboratory should their application be successful.
  • The list of faculty members eligible to supervise students can be found on the MMI website and applicants can contact them directly to discuss their willingness to accept the applicant into their laboratory. Due to a high volume of applications, we cannot guarantee a prompt response. Please, do not contact the administrators for supervisorship requests.
  • While an offer from a faculty member to join their laboratory is required, it does not guarantee admission to the program.
  • Limited competitive funding opportunities are available for potential international students.
  • A GRE test is not required for international students to apply to our program.
  • Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
