Gynecological Oncology
The members of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology provide comprehensive gynecologic cancer care to women in northern Alberta, the western Arctic (Northwest Territories and Nunavut), northeast British Columbia and western Saskatchewan. Faculty members in this division are also involved in the assessment and treatment of women with pre-invasive lesions of the lower genital tract.
The division participates in educational activities at the undergraduate and postgraduate level within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Department of Oncology. Research includes participation in national and international clinical trials as well as collaboration with basic science researchers in the Department of Oncology.

Clinical Programs & Initiatives
Women with gynecologic malignancies are seen in clinics at the Cross Cancer Institute. Chemotherapy treatment is also performed at the Cross Cancer Institute, and in outreach chemotherapy clinics in northern Alberta under the direction of the gynecologic oncologists in the division. Surgical treatments are performed at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women in Edmonton. Our regional clinical programming includes gynecologic oncologist virtual appointments and follow-ups to outreach clinics in Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray and Yellowknife on a regular basis to provide care for patients closer to their home communities.
At the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, the members of our division have developed a program in minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for women with gynecologic malignancies. A successful fundraising campaign by the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation led to the acquisition of a dedicated da Vinci Robotic Surgical System in 2014 for the Women's Health program at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women. The da Vinci Robotic Surgical System is used by the members of the division for the surgical management of women with endometrial and cervical malignancies.
Dr. Christine Bentz and Dr. Amanda Kirkham (General Gynecology) provide consultation services to women with a genetic predisposition to ovarian cancer in the Allard Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Clinic at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women.
Members also provide a leadership role in cervical cancer screening by participating on the committees of the Alberta Cervical Cancer Screening Program.
