Research
The Department of Pharmacology prides itself on its commitment to research. All of the full-time primary and adjunct faculty members in Pharmacology receive external research support from agencies such as the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), and a significant number also have been awarded competitively funded salary support. Broadly speaking, neuroscience, cardiovascular and diabetes research are the areas, which figure most prominently, in the current academic life of the Department. Research related to other areas of enquiry is also represented to a lesser extent.

Dr. Patrick MacDonald - Awarded a 4 year CIHR/JDRF/Diabetes Canada team grant to study variation in human insulin production from pancreatic islet cells from human organ
donors.
Dr. Kurata received a CIHR grant, "Molecularpharmacology of Kv7 activator drugs."
Dr. Simonetta Sipione was significantly involved in the release of CONNECTIONS, “a luminous art exhibit of 70 multimedia pieces and a few poems that has been on display at the Friends of University Hospital’s McMullen Gallery” (Folio Article).

Dr. Kurata received an NSERC Discovery grant, "Surveying the landscape of ion channel regulatory proteins."
Dr. Anna Taylor was awarded a CIHR Project Grant for “Central amygdala inflammation and chronic pain.”
