 Diagnostic Imaging for MSK Disorders in Primary Care

*NEW Online Course Fall 2021 - This non-credit course focuses on the safe and appropriate usage of diagnostic imaging for the management of common musculoskeletal conditions seen in primary care settings.  More specifically, this course will provide the knowledge and clinical decision making skills required to effectively utilize conventional radiography, CT Scan, MRI and Diagnostic ultrasound. Emphasis is placed on using clinical practice guidelines to make appropriate, timely and judicious referrals for diagnostic imaging and how to use the Radiologist’s report to make appropriate patient care decisions. This course does not focus on the interpretation and reading of images.


Lymphedema and Chronic Edema Management: A Course for Healthcare Professionals 

*NEW Online Course - Fall 2021. This series of educational modules presents an in-depth, expert-facilitated overview of key topics in lymphedema and chronic edema management, across practice settings from pediatrics to elder care. Four modules present topics of clinical relevance, including the following: differential diagnosis and complex measurements in lymphedema, lymphedema across the lifespan, with consideration of quality of life and patient-centred care, research and advanced treatment approaches, and application through case scenarios.  


Introduction to Telerehabilitation for Clinicians

The Introduction to Telerehabilitation for clinician's non-credit course is intended for clinicians who are interested in implementing telerehabilitation services within their practice. Within this course, participants will be provided with essential background information on the evidence, policies, guidelines, and technology required to deliver remote care.  Now accepting registrations.          


Level 1 - Introduction to Pelvic Health

*NEW Online Course & in-person practical lab.  It is critical that rehabilitation professionals who work with patients suffering from incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction have a comprehensive understanding of the factors that impact continence and dysfunction.  This Level 1 course is divided into two parts; part 1 consists of an online course and part 2 consists of a 2 day lab.  Now accepting registrations.


Foundations of Musculoskeletal Anatomy for Human Movement

*NEW Online Course. This course provides an introduction to the musculoskeletal anatomy required for understanding human movement.   Specifically, the course will explore the basic structural anatomy of the bones, joints, muscles and nerves of the spine and extremities and how these function to allow for human movement. This course is suitable for students looking for an introductory level anatomy course focussing on musculoskeletal anatomy or for health-care practitioners looking to refresh their musculoskeletal anatomy.  The course consists of two parts which will be delivered separately. Now accepting registration for Part 1 for Fall 2021.


Wheelchair and Seated Mobility

This online course covers theoretical models guiding seating practice, client centered assessment, common wheelchair types, wheelchair set up for effective propulsion, common seating components, goal setting, and management of commonly encountered postural deformities. Now accepting rolling enrollments to this course.


Online Graduate Certificate Programs in Pain Management, Stroke Rehabilitation, Sexual Health and Francophone Practice for SLPs

The Faculty offers graduate certificate programs in pain management (online), stroke rehabilitation (online), sexual health (online), and Francophone practice for speech language pathologists (blended). NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR WINTER 2022.


Graduate Certificate in Bridging to Canadian Physical Therapy Practice

The Graduate Certificate in Bridging to Canadian Physical Therapy Practice is a 12 month program offered in a blended format and consists of five courses: two academic courses, two concurrent mentoring courses, and one clinical placement course. Our delivery format supports adult learners to manage the majority of their study time at the time of day that best fits their needs.


Online Course: Physiotherapy Practice in the Canadian Healthcare System

This online course provides the Internationally Educated Physiotherapist (IEPT) with a broad overview of the practice of physiotherapy within the context of the Canadian health care system.


Online Mastering Multiple Choice Exam Course

This is an online course that allows students to develop strategies for studying for and writing a Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) Exam. This course is designed for Internationally or Canadian educated physical therapists who are preparing for writing MCQ exams, including the written (Qualifying) component of the Canadian Alliance National Physiotherapy Competency Exam.


Online Diagnostic Imaging Course

This course provides participants with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively utilize diagnostic imaging in the management of selected conditions seen by physical therapists.

PREPARING FOR THE OBJECTIVE STRUCTURED CLINICAL EXAM (OSCE)?

The University of Alberta is excited to be offering OSCE workshops in 2021. The OSCE workshops will follow what is happening for the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators (CAPR) PCE Clinical Exam.

Our instructors have clinical content expertise as well as expertise in teaching, examining, and offering virtual OSCEs. With many years of IEPT educational programming provided by our faculty we are very knowledgeable about the learning needs of IEPTs. 

We have opened space in our next Virtual OSCEs being held on September 18, 2021.  There will be an AM session (9-12) and a PM session (1-4) MDT.

*note that you must be eligible to participate in the Physiotherapy Competency Exam (PCE) to participate in an OSCE workshop.
