Why study this program?

Pursuing a Business Minor is an excellent way for you to specialize in a scientific field while also gaining experience in business and management. Courses in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, and other business subjects will complement your science courses, give you a more well-rounded education, and prepare you for a variety of roles and careers. The Business minor can only be taken as part of a BSc Major or Honors degree.

The Business minor is also offered as a BSc Honors degree.


Why study a Bachelor of Science with Major?

The Bachelor of Science with Major is a highly customizable degree program with a wide breadth of topics to study. The degree includes an optional minor or double major. This flexibility allows students to design their degree around two areas of interest, or choose to focus on only one area. Students have the option to keep their program broad or delve deeper into a discipline of their choice. Your minor can be chosen from 60+ subjects, including many offered by the Faculty of Arts, Native Studies, Business or Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences.

Yasmin is a recent Science graduate who was awarded the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship and is now studying at Oxford University. As a UAlberta student, Yasmin was President of the Health & Wellness student group and the founder of StolleryBOTs, a robotics program for patients at the Stollery Children's Hospital.

Program Requirements

This program does not allow admission directly from high school. See requirements below for more details.

Preprofessional Study Time: 1 year. Admission to the minor in Business is by application at the end of Year 1, upon completion of 24 credits.

  1. Junior ENGL (6), or Junior ENGL (3) and Junior WRS (3)
  2. ECON 101 (3) and ECON 102 (3)
  3. MATH 114, 115, 117, 134, 144, OR 154 (3)
  4. 3 in Mathematical Sciences (Mathematics, Statistics, or Computing Science)
  5. 6 in Biological Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, or Science Psychology 

Admission Selection: Minimum AGPA of 2.3 and a minimum average of 2.3 on
prerequisite courses.
