In Canada, heart diseases are the second leading cause of death each year. Every five minutes a Canadian dies from heart conditions, stroke or vascular cognitive impairment, yet it is estimated that 80 per cent of cardiovascular diseases are preventable.
To help combat the risks of cardiovascular disease, the University of Alberta has created the CardioVascular Research Institute (CVRI).This new research institute will help drive research discoveries through collaboration, strategic investment and research funding.
