"Trans-Aesthetics: Crossing Central Europe" Conference April 2nd to 3rd

2 March 2012

Trans-Aesthetics ConferenceFor centuries, Central Europe has been a hybrid space of communication where cultural features have become interwoven beyond nationalities, ethnicities, or the movement of time. During the conference of the Wirth Institute for Austrian and Central European Studies, speakers from across Canada, the United States, and Europe representing diverse disciplines, including literary and cultural studies, musicology, and art history, will examine the resulting aesthetic overlap from a variety of historical and transcultural perspectives. The conference will begin with a focus on the cultural relations solidifying around 1900 before turning to the contemporary period, where speakers question the manner in which this transcultural heritage continues to be active after the fall of the Iron Curtain.
