U of A significantly amends proposal to expedite settlement
On November 25, 2021, the University of Alberta tabled a settlement offer for AASUA’s consideration.
The proposed offer is based on the university’s means given continuing financial constraints and the university’s desire to avoid additional and unnecessary job loss. The university believes the offer is fair under the circumstances and respects the valuable contributions of academic staff. The university wishes to achieve labour stability through a negotiated agreement.
Highlights from the offer:
- 4-year term (expiring June 30, 2024)
- No reductions in salaries; rather, secured salaries at current rates plus continued application of annual merit incrementation
- No reductions in benefits; the university will continue to pay 100% of benefits costs
- A revised faculty salary structure on a savings/cost-neutral basis as may be mutually agreed per continuing discussions
- Maximum salary for Lecturers will be brought in line with the current market - to take effect at the end of the agreement’s term, June 30, 2024 and applicable to newly hired employees only
- Withdrawal of all other outstanding proposals in dispute
