Writing Support

1- In-person writing support

La Centrale provides writing support services in English and French in the form of free peer tutoring and development workshops. Our tutors work with you to help you identify any potential issues with your writing and recommend strategies you can use to develop, revise and perfect your work.

Please remember: the tutors' role is not to correct or edit your work.

2- Online writing support

La Centrale provides an online writing support service in French and English. Students from the Saint-Jean Campus can now submit a draft piece of work or any questions related to the writing process using the online writing support form. A tutor from La Centrale will send you their comments within 3 days of submission of the form.

The process is as follows:

  1. Fill in the online writing support form to submit a draft piece of writing or any questions related to the writing process.
  2. Make sure to include the following information in your form:
    1. The instructions given for the piece of work and the assessment criteria (if available);
    2. The course code;
    3. The deadline for submitting your piece of work;
    4. Your questions for the tutor
  3. Upload your completed form as well as your piece of work in Word format (on La Centrale's e-class)
  4. A language tutor will reply to you within 3 days (not including weekends, during La Centrale's opening hours from Monday to Friday).

Important information:

Please do not submit several versions of your work. Once you have submitted your work, you should wait to receive our comments before submitting any further texts.

Language tutors will spend the same time on pieces of work submitted online and those brought to one-to-one meetings, i.e. 30 minutes. A maximum of 3 pages will be analysed.

Make sure to write specific questions for the tutors so that they can properly respond to your needs.

For example:

  • Is my dissertation organised in a clear and logical manner?
  • Are my ideas well supported?
  • Have I used proper citations?
  • How can I write more concisely?
  • Have I used the semicolon properly?
  • Have I used sequence of tenses properly?
  • How do I write a cover letter?

If you need any additional help or immediate support, we highly recommend that you make a one-to-one appointment with one of the tutors at La Centrale.

Please remember: the role of La Centrale tutors is not to correct or edit your work.
