Give to Computing Science

The University of Alberta's Department of Computing Science consistently ranks among the top 5 in Canada and top 50 in North America. Besides world-class research, we are also committed to the education of our undergraduate and graduate students as well as supporting and promoting equity and diversity across the whole department. Our mission also includes reaching out to other disciplines and providing a rich set of learning opportunities for multidisciplinary teams of students. Your support is needed to enhance the training of our next generation of students in many ways. For example, it can be used to create scholarships, entrance awards and also foster student entrepreneurship, necessary for expanding computing-related industries in Edmonton and Alberta.

Ada's Team

Ada's Team was established by a dozen computing science undergraduate and graduate students, mostly women, as well as professors and administrators in the Faculty of Science. The group was formed initially out of a shared interest in attending the Grace Hopper Celebration for Women in Computing (the world's largest gathering of women technologists), designed to bring the research and career interests of women in computing to the forefront. In addition to providing a safe and positive space on campus for young women to meet and share their experiences, the office is often used to offer in-house support to CS students, including free tutoring sessions and drop-in activities. Financial support enables the group to send women to attend the conference focused on diversity and equity and to provide continued support for students on campus, while also extending support beyond campus, for example, helping with all-girls coding camps.

Computing Science Alumni Endowment for Undergraduate Education

The undergraduate experience can be life-defining. Many young people enter university uncertain about their future, and it is here that they first realize the unlimited possibilities that advanced education provides. It is a time full of opportunities for self-discovery, personal development, and enrichment. As one of the top 100 Computing Science Departments in the world, the University of Alberta Department of Computing Science has always offered enhanced opportunities to challenge and inspire students. To further enrich the undergraduate student experience, a group of alumni has established the Computing Science Alumni Endowment for Undergraduate Education, to support activities that benefit undergraduate students such as research internships, outreach activities, new curriculum initiatives, and developing entrepreneurial skills.

Programming Club

The Programming Club represents a group of passionate, competitive undergraduate and graduate programmers guided by award-winning, world-class coaches. The Club has produced teams that regularly compete in the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest. This annual series of programming competitions, which culminates in the World Finals for which our top teams regularly qualify, fosters creativity, teamwork, and innovation in building new software programs, and enables students to test their ability to perform under pressure. Support will help our teams to travel to competitions and intense training camps, and provide the seed funding to develop a similar program with the local high school community.
