Update to Safety Measures Directives

The university’s Safety Measures General Directives provides guidance on the expectations for employees, faculty, university planning groups, students, contractors and campus visitors.

30 July 2020

Since being released on June 4, 2020 there have been some key updates to the university’s Safety Measures General Directives, in response to a number of updated public health measures. This resource will continue to be updated and provides guidance on the expectations for employees, faculty, university planning groups, students, contractors and visitors in preparation to ensure a safe return to teaching, learning, research, work, and life on our campuses.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Wearing a mask is mandatory in all indoor common areas and everywhere 2 metre distancing is not possible, on all University of Alberta properties. This is in alignment with advice from public health authorities as well as with the City of Edmonton’s recent approval of a mandatory mask bylaw for indoor public spaces, effective August 1, 2020. View the updated Safety Measures General Directives to see examples of exceptions.

Return to Campus Plan Template

Please remember that wherever possible, work during Phase Two must be conducted remotely. This template helps supervisors and departments consider all the requirements of returning to campuses. Changes to this template include: Physical Barriers and Distancing, Gatherings and Meetings, Use of Face Masks and Respirators, Transportation to and from the U of A, development of a University Rapid Response Plan, and more.

Health Screening

If you are feeling unwell, do not come to campus. To ensure compliance with public health directives, faculty, staff and students should use the Alberta Health Daily Checklist as part of their daily self screening process.
