Certificate Pathway
A Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (GCES) or Graduate Certificate in School Leadership (GCSL) from the University of Alberta provides students with up to 12 credits in advanced standing in the MES program. The different options are outlined below:

MES General Ladder
The MES General Ladder is for students who have completed one of the following graduate certificates from the University of Alberta:
Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies
- Early Childhood Education
- Indigenous Education
- Mentoring and Leadership
- Structured Literacy and Reading Science
- Teaching Students with Significant Disabilities
- Trauma-Sensitive Practice
Graduate Certificate in School Leadership
- GCSL General
- GCSL Catholic Education
- GCSL Independent Schools
- GCSL Rural Schools
MES STEM Ladder
The MES STEM Ladder is for students who have completed a Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies in either Mathematics Education or Technology in Education from the University of Alberta.
MES Structured Literacy and Reading Science Ladder
This Ladder is for students who have completed a Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies in Structured Literacy and Reading Science from the University of Alberta.
