Eligibility
In order to apply to be eligible to apply to participate in an Araucaria Foundation-founded Getting to the World of Science research internship, student applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at an eligible university in the state of Paraná in Brazil, as well as any other eligibility conditions as deemed by the Araucaria Foundation
- Not be a previous recipient of an Araucaria Foundation-funded research internship placement at the University of Alberta
The following are NOT strict eligible criteria for this program, but rather are factors that make for a competitive research candidate for consideration by our host professors:
- Completed at least 2 years of their undergraduate program, and/or be entering 3rd or 4th year of study
- This demonstrates that you have taken and successfully completed enough classes to gain sufficient minimum foundational knowledge in your field of study, rather than only more introductory coursework.
- Have a minimum GPA of B, or 3.0 on a 4-point scale, ideally higher
- Arrive in Canada with suitable proficiency in English to perform research
- While a formal English test result is not a requirement to apply for this program, a minimum score of TOEFL 70 iBT, IELTS 5.5, and/or DET 90 or above on informal or practice tests generally indicates that you possess the necessary communication skills to successfully perform research at the University of Alberta
- U of A Host Professors or Supervisors/Mentors may request a video meeting with applicants during the selection process to screen for suitability, as desired
